new business opportunity 04 by Publication Critique

I was sick of the same old 9-to-5 grind. When I started off, it seemed like one of those new business opportunities that you read about. My boss was actually one of my friends. He had a little bit of capital, and we both had an interest in automobiles. He decided to start his own auto repair shop, and I was going to work for him. I didn't really resent having him as my boss. You see, he was a great guy. I would have no problem working for him. And the best part was, this new business opportunity was all his risk. If things went well, I would make good money. If things went badly, however, he would be the one who would have to eat the loss.

The problem was that my friend didn't know much about how to start a business. Things went slowly at first. He was losing money for a good year or so before he made any profit. Instead of understanding that this was one of the risks of starting a business, he blamed it on his employees. It had started off as a great new business opportunity ? a chance to work with people I liked doing work that I loved ? but now it had become a drag. I was just another alienated laborer slaving away under my boss day after day. I decided to start new. I would find a new business opportunity for myself.

I realized that my friend had made it difficult for himself by not starting a franchise. It is possible to go into business starting an independent auto repair shop, but it is much harder. Although ultimately you can make a bigger name for yourself and get credit for all of your own work, the risks are much greater. I thought that owning a franchise would be a much better new business opportunity. That way, it would be much less difficult to get people in the door. I would have the benefit of nationwide name recognition. Although I would still have to set everything up myself, at least people would have heard of me. That is what makes a good new business opportunity. If you can turn profits from the very first quarter, you are much more likely to be able to stay in business. As it turns out, it worked well. My franchise prospered. It took a little while, but now everything is running smoothly!
